Who We Are
Overview
The Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA) is a local government authority established under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). It serves as the highest political and administrative authority within the Ga Central Municipal area of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
The Assembly is responsible for the overall development of the municipality, promoting local economic development, and ensuring the effective and efficient administration of services to the people of Ga Central.
Our Mandate
- Exercise political and administrative authority in the municipality
- Provide guidance, give direction to, and supervise other administrative authorities
- Promote and support productive activity and social development
- Initiate, oversee, and coordinate development activities in the municipality
- Maintain security and public safety within the district
- Levy taxes, rates, duties, and fees as approved by Parliament
Our Vision & Mission
Vision: To be a model local government authority providing efficient, transparent, and accountable governance for the sustainable development of Ga Central.
Mission: To facilitate socio-economic development through effective mobilisation and management of resources, delivery of quality services, and promotion of good governance in partnership with all stakeholders.
Works & Infrastructure Department
The Works Department is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining public infrastructure within the municipality. Key functions include:
- Issuance and management of building permits
- Approval of temporary structure applications
- Road blockage permit processing
- Enforcement of building and zoning regulations
- Supervision of public construction projects
- Maintenance of roads, drains, and public spaces
Assembly Composition
The Ga Central Municipal Assembly is composed of:
- Elected Assembly Members representing various electoral areas
- Government-appointed members (30% of total membership)
- The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) — appointed by the President
- The Member of Parliament for the constituency (non-voting)
- Representatives of traditional authorities
The Assembly meets at least three times a year to deliberate on development issues and pass resolutions.
About This Portal
The GCMA Works & Infrastructure Portal is a digital initiative aimed at making permit applications, document submissions, and project filings more accessible to residents, developers, and businesses operating within the Ga Central Municipal area.
Through this portal, applicants can submit requests for building permits, road blockage approvals, temporary structure licences, and other works-related services without needing to visit the Assembly offices in person. All submissions are processed by the relevant department and applicants are notified of progress via official channels.
